Polish Portal of Osteoporosis (PPO) was established by the Polish Society of Osteoarthrology (PTOA) in cooperation with the Department of Bone and Joint Diseases, Jagiellonian University Coll. Med. in 2003. The aim of the PPO is to disseminate knowledge and information about osteoporosis and other bone and joint diseases for doctors, patients and interested persons.
PPO activities is based on the PTOA statute. It is a social enterprise, not a commercial one. Currently, there are over 8.500 registered users, and the number of page views of the Portal is approximately 70.000 per month. The portal has separate sections for Patients and Physicians. The "Patients" section contains basic information about the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of osteoporosis as well as illustrative video materials. In the "For Doctors" section we have included current scientific materials, standards for the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis, the history of congresses since 1994, and video lectures. Currently, we have expanded this section with a list of Osteoporosis Treatment Clinics, Densitometric Laboratory and drug refunds. Portal users receive an electronic bulletin containing current information from the country and abroad. We update the "News" and "Standards and publications" sections on an ongoing basis. The content of the Portal covers 334 pages.
