Sekcja Chorób Metabolicznych Kości Dzieci i Młodzieży została powołana 14 czerwca 2008 przez Zarząd Główny Polskiej Fundacji Osteoporozy. Organy statutowe Sekcji to Zarząd (Przewodnicząca i 8 członków) oraz Zespoły: Naukowo-Konsultacyjny i Badawczo-Organizacyjny.
Celem Sekcji jest działalność naukowa, popularyzatorska i profilaktyczno-lecznicza obejmująca choroby układu ruchu w wieku rozwojowym, a tym samym pierwotną profilaktykę ich występowania w dalszych okresach życia.

SECTION OF METABOLIC BONE DISEASES IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS AT POLISH FOUNDATION OF OSTEOPOROSIS – ACHIEVEMENTS AND PLANS FOR THE FUTURE

The Section of Metabolic Bone Diseases in Children and Adolescents was founded on 14 June 2008 by the Board of Polish Foundation of Osteoporosis. The statutory bodies of the Section are: the Board (the Chairwoman and 8 members) and Think-Tanks: Scientific and Consultative as well as Research and Organizational.
The task of the Section involves scientific and popularizing activity and also prevention and treatment of locomotor diseases of developmental age, i.e. primary prophylaxis in further stages of life.
Activities:
·conducting scientific research
·drawing up guidelines concerning treatment and prevention of metabolic bone diseases in children and adolescents
·popularizing scientific knowledge
·integrating general medical practitioners and researchers dealing with the problem of osteoporosis
Achievements:
·scientific meeting held on 10 January 2009 in Łódź, under the patronage of the President of Polish Foundation of Osteoporosis – prof. Janusz E. Badurski, MD, PhD
·creating an all-Poland register of patients suffering from Osteogenesis imperfecta
·involvement of the members of the Section in the Think-Tank, which worked out “Polish Recommendations on the Prophylaxis of Vitamin D Deficiency” (2009)
·close cooperation of the Section with Fundacja Pomagająca Dzieciom z Chorobami Narządów Ruchu “Idziemy Razem” (a foundation helping children with locomotor diseases „We Walk Together”)
·organizing Paediatric Session during 3rd Central European Congress on Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis in Cracow (24 September 2009)
·organizing 1st Scientific Conference: “Current Problems of Osteology in Children” in Łódź, 12 June 2010
·organizing 2nd Scientific Conference: “Vitamin D – Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow” in Łódź, 14 – 15 January 2011
·the members of the Section from a few Polish centres conduct (in 2011) a multicentre scientific research: “Evaluation of Vitamin D Level in Polish Children Aged 9-15 –Multicentre Research”. The research is carried out in six centres in Poland (Poznań, Białystok, Lublin, Silesia, Szczecin, Łódź regions). The head of the research is the Chairwoman of the Section
·plans to organize 3rd Scientific Conference on secondary osteoporosis (2012)
·plans to draw up guidelines concerning preventative administration of vitamin D in school children
The present seat of the Section is the Department of Pediatric Propedeutics and Metabolic Bone Diseases of Łódź Medical University and the Chairwoman of the Section Board is prof. Danuta Chlebna–Sokół, MD, phD.
